The Regulator 26: A Living Sportfishing Legend

Edenton, N.C. (October 2008) – The first model ever built by Regulator Marine, the 26 serves as a quality benchmark within the midsize center console niche. Even today, it continues to offer the accomplished angler the rugged durability, powerful performance and luxurious comfort required for the serious pursuit of offshore gamefish.

Premiering in 1988, the solid success of the 26 laid the foundation of a business that today manufactures a product line of 10 highly-respected boats. While many older vessels in the industry are retired because of outdated style and performance – and a resulting drop in sales – the 26 persists. In fact, Regulator delivered the thousandth 26 hull in late 2004.
“We knew exactly what we wanted in the 26,” said Joan Maxwell, Regulator co-founder and president. “We wanted a great running hull that would take a pounding, be quick and maneuverable, and have lots of fishability features. Its continued popularity has exceeded our wildest expectations!”

For 2006, Regulator has redesigned the console interior and has added a full fiberglass liner to the 26. These major changes put the boat farther in the lead when it comes to quality-built center consoles and once again demonstrates the uncompromising spirit that goes into each and every Regulator.

Regulator’s unique Fiberglass Grillage System premiered on the 26 and is incorporated in all its models to this day. This phenomenal superstructure is bonded to the inside bottom of the all-fiberglass hull and acts as the backbone of the boat. The resulting structural integrity gives Regulators the ability to withstand demanding sea conditions yet deliver a soft, dry ride. The 26 was one of the first boats in the industry to have a fiberglass stringer produced from a mold.

The Regulator 26 is a Carolina purebred that delivers impressive performance and an especially comfortable ride, thanks to her 48-degree entry and 24-degree transom deadrise. Coupled with twin 250-hp Yamaha four-strokes, the hull delivers great speed and fuel economy. While the 176-gallon fuel tank provides plenty of range, an optional 34-gallon auxiliary fuel tank is available.

The 26 is loaded with standards like a 64-quart cooler under the forward console seat; an enclosed, all-fiberglass, stand-up head compartment with portable marine toilet and vanity mirror; a saltwater washdown with a self-coiling hose; a custom windshield with aluminum handrails; and Lenco 14” x 18” auto-retract trim tabs. A triple-battery electrical system; Yamaha Command Link instrumentation; and stainless steel locking hatch handles round out a truly impressive equipment list.
Plenty of options are available to customize the 26 to the needs of the hardcore fisherman, such as 16-foot outrigger poles; a custom fiberglass tackle center; and a freshwater system with 20 gallon capacity. A protective and stylish fiberglass T-Top comes with a built-in Lee® Sidewinder outrigger bases, pre-wired electronics box, LED dome light and optional electronics flush-mount panel. A Guest® Blue Water three-stage, electronic battery charger is another exciting upgrade, as is the electric head with six-gallon holding tank.

The standard SuperSport leaning post incorporates the storage advantages of a tackle center while maintaining the simplicity of the standard, four-legged leaning post. The SuperSport accommodates up to four 50-class rods and features a flip-up seat cushion with tackle storage, space underneath for a 94-quart cooler, and built-in footrest and backrest. Regulators are available in FS forward seating styles and come in six optional gel coat colors, or any custom color imaginable.

Dedicated offshore trophy hunters know storage space is important on a vessel, and the Regulator 26 offers plenty: two 17-quart bait boxes and a 16-gallon livewell in the transom; dry storage space under the console; a huge, 700-quart, in-deck wet/dry box that doubles as locking rod storage; and four additional fish box/dry storage lockers in the side decks and bow area. As in all Regulator models, each of these storage compartments is fully finished.

Regulator’s line of 23- to 34-foot offshore sportfishing boats are highly recognized for quality craftsmanship and rugged durability. The company is a repeat recipient of the National Marine Manufacturer Association’s Marine Industry CSI Award for customer satisfaction in the Fiberglass Outboard Boats category.
