Top Boat Builders to Clash in First-Ever Regulator/Contender Shootout

Long Island, NY (July 26, 2005) – It’ll be high noon all weekend long at the Montauk Yacht Club from September 9 to 11 as two of the roughest, toughest competitors in the offshore sportfishing boat market come out guns blazing at the Regulator/Contender Shootout.

This exclusive, first-of-its-kind tournament will pit the crews of 20 Regulators and 20 Contenders against one another in what is sure to be a battle for the ages – or at least for serious bragging rights. Each fish from each boat will be weighed, and the total weight for the two teams will determine who walks away the winner and who walks away the whiner. Crews will be limited to four anglers per boat, including the captain.

The three-day contest will include fishing for both inshore and offshore species, namely fluke, bluefish, striped bass, shark (mako/thrasher), tuna (yellowfin/ bluefin/longfin/bigeye) and mahi mahi. In addition to an overall winning team – which will lay claim to the Regulator/Contender Cup for the year – the tournament also will award largest catch prizes at a barbecue on the final night.

Organized by Regulator dealership Suffolk Marine Center in Babylon, New York, and Contender dealership White Water Marine in Sayville, New York, the event has been several months in the planning. Jimmy Luttieri, principal at Suffolk Marine, says that “interest has been huge,” with Regulator owners calling from Connecticut, New Jersey and Massachusetts.

“Montauk has one of the finest fisheries on the East Coast, and September is prime time for unbelievable action. Couple this with the individual’s pride of their boat brand, and we may have one of the most exciting and competitive tournaments this fall,” said Luttieri. “We look forward to having the cup displayed in the Regulator booth at this year’s New York Boat Show!”
