An Owner’s Story: Cunningham Family 

Some boats are just part of the family. For the Cunningham family of Fairhope, Alabama, their red 1993 Regulator 23, Hull #12, is exactly that. Known as The Rebel Yell, this classic center console boat has been on the water for more than three decades, chasing records, weathering storms, and bringing three generations together.

Thomas Cunningham tells it this way: “My grandfather, Robert Cunningham, had it customized for fly fishing in 1993. He and my dad broke numerous fly-fishing world records on it. My dad then bought the boat from him and has had it ever since. It has stayed in the family the entire time.”

From the beginning, Rebel Yell has been a hardcore fishing boat. “We’ve run it 100 miles offshore more times than I can count on that 150-gallon fuel tank,” Thomas says. “We still fish it today, and the only things we’ve ever changed are the engines and the windshield. Pretty incredible it’s held up this long.” 

The ride has always stood out: “The ride is very good for a 23-foot boat.”

Over the years, the Cunninghams have seen just about everything aboard their Regulator 23. “This boat has seen 8-foot waves and been in storms with 100 mph winds,” Thomas says. “That boat has produced more stories than you can imagine. Stories that will be told for a long time.”
