Late one summer night, a group of anglers that included our very own pro captain Anthony, our good friend and owner Tom, and two SUNY Maritime-Fort Schuyler buddies of Anthony’s embarked on an overnight canyon run in pursuit of a big game catch aboard the Regulator 37 center console.
The guys left the dock around nine o'clock at night and ran 100-plus miles in the dark to their first spot in about a thousand feet of water. According to Tom, “It was a little rough coming out, but the boat handled it really well.”
Within 20 minutes of hitting the canyon, they had baits out and landed what was clearly a big fish. They fought it for about an hour, maybe an hour and twenty minutes, and it turned out to be a 200-pound swordfish.
“That's what we came for. [The 37] didn't let me down—everything I expected,” said Tom. “We had a great trip, landed this massive swordfish, and it was a real treat. First swordfish I ever caught, so that was pretty cool.”
