An Owner’s Story: Joe Sweeney 

Joe’s connection to Regulator runs deep. A former marine industry professional, he’s seen just about everything on the market and in his words: “It’s the best purchase decision our family has ever made.” 

For Florida boater Joe Sweeney, his 2025 Regulator 28 center console boat has quickly become the heartbeat of his family’s time on the water. Based in Clearwater with two boys, 18 and 14, who love to fish, the Sweeneys normally run 50–80 miles out into the Gulf and are already planning their next big adventure. 

“This June, we are going from Clearwater to Key West by water,” Joe says. “We have been using our Regulator 28 nonstop since we bought it and I really can’t say enough good things about it.”

The entire ownership experience has stood out to him. From working with Joe McGeehan and Seth Brown at Thunder Marine to a factory tour in Edenton, NC with Keith Ammons where he saw his hull getting pulled from the mold, “It’s been an awesome experience, with every part contributing to the best purchase decision our family has ever made.” 

After owning Maycraft, Tidewater, and Pursuit, Joe narrowed it down to the Pursuit S288 or the Regulator 28 — and the decision came quickly. 

“The ride is unbelievable. It rides like a 32 from any other brand.”

His other favorite element: build quality. 

“It’s constructed like a tank and made to last for decades. The fishing layout is far superior to other brands…well laid out for comfort and everything else we do.” 

Favorite memories already include their first blackfin tuna 55 miles offshore with all four family members on board, and a scalloping trip where “the 28 handled everything perfectly. Regulator really builds the best” 

As Joe puts it, Regulator is “much more than a boat, it’s also about the values” which include safety, integrity, personal accountability and stewardship. He even has a Regulator core values card taped to his computer monitor at home “to remind me personally to live up to Regulator’s values.”
