Regulator center console boats are renowned for their smooth, predictable ride, and a big part of that comes down to the meticulous engineering behind every boat. Each component is crafted to precise weight and size specifications, ensuring peak performance on the water. Here’s a closer look at the key features that have made Regulators the finest in offshore sportfishing boats for 35+ years.

THE REGULATOR HULL

Regulator delivers an exceptionally stable and smooth ride in rough seas. And that unbeatable ride starts with the strength of our hull.

Originally designed by renowned naval architect Lou Codega, our deep-vee hulls are engineered to slice through waves, ensuring a smooth, dry ride even in tough conditions.

One of the things that sets our hull apart is the meticulous, multi-layer construction. Over the course of 3 to 4 days, our team applies 10 to 12 layers of structure, using advanced materials to create a lightweight yet durable hull. This time-tested process ensures Regulator boats perform at the highest level, and give you confidence in any waters.

In short, our hull is so strong because:

  • Everything below the waterline is solid fiberglass - even the strakes are filled and solid.

  • This glass is purposefully hand laid to create weight down low in the boat, delivering a predictable ride.

  • The hull sides and area above the water line are designed to further drive the weight down low in the boat.

24 DEGREES OF DEADRISE

The hull on our Offshore Series of deep vee center consoles features 24 degrees of deadrise and a signature build that ensures the ultimate ride in every condition.

What’s deadrise, and why does it matter?

Deadrise refers to the “V” shape of a boat’s hull, with the angle of this vee known as the deadrise angle. The higher the angle, the deeper the vee. For example, a skiff has 0 degrees of deadrise with a flat bottom, while our offshore boats have a 24-degree deadrise for better performance.

Deadrise is measured at the transom, but the angle increases toward the bow, creating a steeper vee. This variable deadrise design allows the boat to pierce through waves at the bow while gradually flattening towards the stern for improved stability.

The deadrise angle is carefully calculated for each boat, balancing weight, center of gravity, horsepower, and speed to ensure the smoothest ride in all conditions.

Our XO Series features 15 to 17 degrees of deadrise, designed for nearshore waters with a shallower draft and less “V” at the transom. While the XOs still have a sharp entry to cut through waves, they run in shallower water than their offshore counterparts and offer a more stable platform for sight casting at rest.

WEIGHT DISTRIBUTION & LOW CENTER OF GRAVITY

The location of weight is crucial for performance, ride, and handling. There are two types of weight to consider: fixed (such as the structure, engines, and t-top) and variable (like fuel, water in the livewell, and gear). Uneven weight distribution, especially side-to-side or fore and aft, can affect how the boat runs. To ensure stability, we place fixed weight as low as possible and position fuel and water tanks near the center of gravity. This ensures consistent handling, whether the fuel tank is full or empty. Every design decision, from hull to power to storage, accounts for the weight and its location to optimize the boat’s performance.

THE ROLE OF THE T-TOP

You may ask yourself: what does a T-Top have to do with how Regulator center console boats ride? The answer is: more than you think!

Regulator produces a class-leading T-Top that is perfectly integrated into the design of each our boats - with size, structure and finish in mind.

We use a variety of materials in the T-Top, including 5-pound foam on the outside and 8-pound foam in the center. This calibrates strength and drives weight to the center of the boat — aiding in our signature ride.

But what truly sets Regulator T-Tops apart is the craftsmanship. Hand-finishing the T-Top takes over 24 man-hours alone!

Our beautiful surfboard edges are hand-finished to avoid trim pieces, caulk lines, screw heads, and other items you may find on a competitor T-Tops. This kind of planning and attention to detail adds long term value, increases resale, and reduces maintenance in every Regulator Ride.

552 HANDS

552 hands touch each Regulator before it leaves the factory. Our talented team of engineers plans every detail of the build, consistently innovating and incorporating your feedback to create the Regulator you deserve.

Our Lamination specialists precisely manufacture each hull, stringer, liner, and deck cap. A dedicated build team spends their days fabricating and fine-tuning the lids to Regulator fishboxes and livewells, hand-finishing our T-Tops, and creating perfectly finished boarding & dive doors.

Our Assembly team installs leading-edge electronics and engines, wires all electronics and gets each Regulator ready for action. Before each boat leaves the factory, our quality control team reviews every detail to ensure you are getting nothing short of marine engineering perfection.

As you can tell, the Regulator Ride is a result of thoughtful engineering, premium materials, and ultimate attention to detail. From the low center of gravity and deep-vee hull design to the handcrafted T-Tops, every element is built for performance, stability, and durability. Whether you’re navigating calm waters or rough seas, Regulator boats provide the confidence and comfort to take on any adventure.
